Protecting critical infrastructure
PNT (positioning, navigation, and timing) data from GNSS satellites can be leveraged to accomplish a multitude of tasks. In fact, PNT services are so useful that much of the world’s critical infrastructure – including transport, energy, and financial markets – has come to depend on it. But GNSS signals are weak, which makes the PNT data they carry highly vulnerable to a range of threats. Whether the integrity of GNSS is weakened by atmospheric phenomena or disrupted by malicious cyber-attacks, governments and businesses know they must invest now to protect lives and livelihoods. Assured PNT (aPNT) is the umbrella term for a suite of advanced technologies that combat natural and human-caused disruptions to GNSS, safeguarding the world’s most critical PNT-based infrastructure.

Multiple layers of protection
The Adtran aPNT+™ platform is founded on three building blocks: detection, mitigation, and backup. To detect possible threats, AI-powered applications enable operators to analyze the condition of each antenna and determine GNSS signal quality in real-time. Intelligent centralized control in combination with advanced detection and monitoring means at the receiver site, allowing operators to resolve issues before they impact the network. To mitigate timing errors caused by cyberattacks and atmospheric phenomena, grandmaster devices combine with multi-band GNSS receivers to render critical infrastructure more resilient while also boosting accuracy. But for those times when GNSS does go down, you need adequate holdover capability, and that’s where PTP grandmasters with rubidium or even cesium atomic clocks step in.
